B i o g r a p h y

Caroline is a South African soprano currently based in London, she completed training with the National Opera Studio in 2017. She did her Postgraduate studies at the Birmingham Conservatoire(Birmingham City University). She completed a three year opera course for young artists with the Black Tie Ensemble opera company in South Africa and later got accepted in their studio.

 

While with the Black Tie Ensemble she has performed the roles of Despina in Cosi fan tutte, Violetta in La Traviata, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi.

 

Caroline then joined the Cape Town Opera Studio and performed the roles of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Clara in Porgy and Bess and understudied Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. She also sang some of these roles in Barcelona, Spain and Bordeaux, France.

 

She won the first prize in the ATKV Muziqanto national competition held in SA annually. Caroline was awarded second prize in the Amazwi oMzansi (Voices of the Nation) competition held in South Africa. In 2015 she was a finalist in the Belvedere International Singing Competition held in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

 

Caroline has participated in a number of competitions at the Conservatoire and outside, she was a finalist in the Leamington Prize at the Conservatoire, the Royal Overseas league in London and Edward Brooks English Prize at the Conservatoire. She has also participated in a number of Masterclasses including one with Roderick Williams. She performed at the Lieberand concert in the Recital Hall and the Bournville lunchtime recital series. She won the Mario Lanza Opera Prize 2016.

 

Caroline was awarded a Royal Overseas League South African Prize in March 2016. She is the first prize winner of the Birmingham Conservatoire Singing Prize 2016. She performed the scene of Lucia from Lucia di Lammermoor in the Conservatoire's Opera Scenes and sang the soprano solo in the Verdi Requiem presented by the conservatoire. She performed the role of Savitri in the opera Savitri by Holst presented by Birmingham Conservatoire.

With the National Opera Studio, she has learned the roles of Elvira from I Puritani by Bellini and Micaela from Carmen by Bizet. Caroline has performed in opera scenes with Opera North, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera in collaboration with NOS. She has recently performed the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with Headfirst Productions during Autumn 2017. She is covering the role of Clara in the upcoming production of Porgy and Bess by ENO in their 2018 season.
